  1. I’ve been prepping terrain and figures for this recently. I likely won’t get a game in for a little while yet, but I’m looking forward to it!

  2. Hi,
I just read the rule book, It’s a very good job, really. it’s full of good ideas and the narrative thread is just brilliant. One criticism: the book should have included an initiation campaign. It’s a real lack which means that many players will read the book then put it away and never play a single game. It is kind of a shame.

    1. Hi Absalom,
      Thanks for stopping by.
Regarding the sample/tutorial campaign – I don’t disagree. However, the Osprey Blue Book Wargame series has a specific format with strict page and word counts. Unfortunately, there simply wasn’t room to include one – so I tried to offset that omission with a separate, sample mission as well as two campaign supplements that were written to coincide with the core book’s release. They are at Wargame Vault as PDFs.
I hope that’s some consolation. Thanks again. Good hunting.

Thanks ! I will probably buy all the content. Thanks again.

  3. Hi Patrick! Love the book, been looking for a good narrative skirmish game to scratch the urban monster-hunting itch.

Question, though. Are the Dark Spawn “themes” just creative prompts for cobbling together your bad guy force, or did they/will they have some sort of gameplay mechanic derive from them?

    1. Hi Mark,
Thanks for stopping by. And the kind words.
No, the themes are prompts. Trying to keep it ‘generic, open-world, open-mini’, I figured it best not to add distinguishing traits to particular types/tropes.
Plus there were space considerations; a bunch of things had to be cut from the final ms to fit in the Blue Book.
Of course, you can house rule theme-appropriate distinctions; ‘all Spectral foes can move through terrain at no penalty.’ ‘Eldritch automatically have Dreadful Trait.’ ‘Infernals are all Terrifying.’ Stuff like that.
      Have a good one.

      1. That’s fair, that gives more leeway! That house-rule idea is neat, too. Looking forward to see more of what you make in the future!
