A root canal and a light work schedule for a couple days gave me some time at the painting desk.
First, here’s my take GW’s new super-sized Primaris Marines. Stock color schemes, I have to say they paint up easily and make a table top quality painter like myself look good. Blue with darker shoulder pads for the line troops, stealth blue/black for the Reivers, add a Command type and they’ll make a nice little recon force to face the Space Hulk genestealers I picked up off eBay. Time to break out my Interior Boards.
Next are some fast-n-easy Objective markers for my grandsons’ Battle for Vedros set. A tarted up Ork glyph and UM banner swiped from the internet, they’re basically plastic sprue, cardboard, and a few bitz on 50mm bases. It’s ‘Capture the Flag’ time now, fellas. That should introduce more fun plus a hint of tactical thinking to our slugfests. They came out alright and should stand up to repeated use.
Quick pictures of more Lead Adventure entries. It’s been a spur to paint up a large batch of fantasy figs, finish several small skirmish sets, and work on my photography skills. Round 10 is running now, so go look at the pretty brushwork.
Have a thing for making small skirmish sets. (28mm gamer, 4′ x 4 table, small game room…) I enjoy finding miniatures from various manufacturers and meshing them into a cohesive unit with a similar theme and aesthetic. Not that I’m always successful, but I enjoy the process.
Here is a small sci fi, near future Force Recon team using Infinity figs, a couple of the Last Sage figs from Rocket Games’ total fumble of a Kickstarter, and a DP9 Heavy Gear fig for a small drone. The first image is the LPL entry, the others close-ups of individuals – which makes it obvious my brushwork is table top gaming standard rather than competition.
These guys would be perfect as a LRRP team sabotaging an enemy refinery, recovering data from a downed UAV deep behind enemy lines, or even squaring off against a similar OpFor in the ruins of a contested city. Oh the places you’ll go…
As my daughter is delivering grandchild # 4 and my house is over run by grandsiblings 1-3, regular Tues eve game night might be postponed. That said, I offer a review of my Lead Adventure LPL entries so far. More a gamer than a collector/painter, I can’t hold a candle to many of the paint jobs and photography there, but the contest has really spurred me to finish the collection of Reaper figs for our SOBH games, as well as several small odd projects that have been collecting dust.
LPL is still running, so head over and ogle the brushwork.
Still working on wide assortment of fantasy figs for our SOBH campaign, some of which might be entered in the LAF LPL, which, according to the official rules, cannot have been be posted anywhere online prior to entry. In the meantime, I’ve been feeling like a slacker not posting so I snapped a few shots today.
I am really enjoying the change from sci fi figs and I’m anxious to put up pictures for your feedback. My brushwork and photog skills what they are, I’ll most likely be eliminated from the LPL soon enough. So that’s one benefit of not being a professional level painter.
Derek, Matt and I have been playing ‘one-of’ games the past few weeks to thoroughly familiarize ourselves with the Advanced SOBH rules, but it looks like we’ll be starting “Whispers of the Lich” soon. (There was a lot of figs to paint, terrain to build, a campaign to write…)
I volunteered to be Game Master and run the NPC baddies, while one of Matt’s friends is supposed to join us, so things should get very interesting. Their three warbands will be semi-cooperating against each mission’s hostiles as they investigate rumors of necromancy and treasure in the crypts of Storm Crag Keep. I’ll be sure to post Bat Reps after each session.
One of my favorite hobby-related occasions: the Last Painters’ League over at the Lead Adventure Forum. A ‘paint-off’ if you will, featuring some very nice brushwork. Stop by for a look. And if you’re a member, go vote! LPL at LAF
I thought we’d get in some Fistful of Kung Fu games while I prepped for our upcoming fantasy SoBH campaign, but we decided otherwise. So… here are three near future/modern figs sets designed to represent Police, Corporate, and Criminal factions.
Sets are $40 each, which includes ConUS Shipping. If you are overseas adn interested, PLEASE contact me to determine actual postage. PayPal only please. I will combine shipping. Contact me here or gmail me. (CCGlazier)
