Now Available: Nightwatch

A cooperative table top miniatures game about hunting monsters.

NIGHTWATCH is a game about killing monsters. All kinds, anywhere, any time.

You and your friends are members of the Nightwatch: an ancient order of warriors, trackers, wizards, and alchemists dedicated to hunting down and destroying the malevolent creatures that terrorize humanity.

Over the course of the game, your characters will rise through the ranks of their chosen Guild, gaining experience and unlocking new skills as they fight ever more dangerous enemies on the blood-soaked path to confront their ultimate quarry.

Miniatures agnostic and adaptable to nearly any fantasy setting from Ancients to Black Powder, this game was made for those sessions when you’re pressed for time and all you want is to get your coolest miniatures on the table, start rolling dice and killing things.

Easy to learn and quick to play, NIGHTWATCH has straightforward dice mechanics, minimal book keeping, and no proprietary accessories or components. Read the book in an afternoon then gather your friends, your dice, terrain, and miniatures that evening for your first hunt.

featuring outstanding illustrations from John Angelo

NIGHTWATCH is currently available as a pdf from Wargame Vault. And in Print and Kindle at Amazon.

These rules are a framework for you to build your own tales of heart-stopping bravery, foul treachery, cringe-worthy cowardice, and most of all, epic victories against overwhelming odds.

So sharpen your sword, check the flints on your pistols, and grab a healing potion; it’s time to give the monsters something to fear.

“In Tenebris, Venari.” (In darkness, we hunt.) The NIGHTWATCH motto.

The world is filled with things dark, vast, and terrible. Only you and your friends stand against them.

Good Hunting, Guildsman.

  1. Excellent- will be a purchase from me.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

  2. YES! I can’t wait! I’m definitely getting the print version. This will be a keeper.

    1. Thank you. Certainly hope you like it. Let me know if you have questions.

  3. I read through the preview and it does look like it’s up my alley — my wife and I enjoy cooperative games and with 2 kids under 5 time is definitely precious. I’ll add it to my next Amazon order!

I also like dice pools as a mechanic — could you talk a little bit about how that works?

  4. Thanks.
The dice pool is the same as the cyberpunk version, Hardwired. Your PC has three action dice (D6, D8, D10) and can use each die type one per turn to attempt up to three actions (one per type) by rolling a 4+. Depending on your chosen guild, you are allowed to roll two of your selected die type and chose the better result. There’s a bit more, but that’s the gist.
    Hope that helps.

  5. Hi Patrick, just wanted to pop by to let you know that I just bought this on Cheetor’s recommendation. Haven’t played a game yet, but I’m really looking forward to it and thoroughly enjoying the book. I’ll be using it for some blackpowdery Van Helsing/Brotherhood of the Wolf style action of hunters vs. various gothic monsters.

  6. […] that scenario pitch, my local group started preparing for Nightwatch, a cooperative skirmish monster hunting wargame. We have played a couple scenarios before, but this […]

  7. Just heard that a new edition is coming. I just got the game about a week ago…will I need to do a full on purchase for V2 or will there be some kind of update?
    Thanks,

    1. Thanks for stopping by.
It won’t be a second edition as much as a variant. Similar to what Kontraband is to Zona Alfa. Small model count narrative scenarios with modified combat and streamlined RPG elements – as opposed to the current game featuring waves of ever-more dangerous baddies culminating in a Big Boss fight. Nothing will become obsolete.
There are several projects ahead of it in the queue so it’s still a ways off.

  8. Hi!We started a Long Hunt yesterday and we had some questions:
Hirelings:they have a free move and how many actions? We played with just one…but then a D10 hireling with movement and just 1D10 is much worse than a Monster Elite!
Potion:If you imbibe it you can do it with a free move, but what happens is you wanna keep you free move and drink the potion?can you use a d6,d8 or d10?If this is the case do you have to roll 4+?.

    Thank you very much.

Pd:We had a blast playing 2 scenarios in just one afternoon!

    1. Hi Mauro.
      Thanks for stopping by.
      1. Hirelings are the same as minions: D6 = Free Move + 1 D6 action. D8 = Free Move + 2 D8 actions. D10 = Free Move + 3 D10 actions.
      2. In general, imbibing a potion costs an action. Use any action die. The rules occasionally let hunters forego the (free) movement to do some personal actions like taking a potion or reloading. Normally though, further activity requires action dice.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
      Glad you enjoy the game.
