Incoming: HARDWIRED

Been extremely busy with work lately, plus I’m clawing my way to some writing-related deadlines, but I wanted to announce I’ve begun revising our club’s Cyberpunk-themed, cooperative game with a mind to release it commercially.

It’s a fast, straightforward game that can be played solo or co-op with friends. HARDWIRED is easy to teach, easy to play, and is designed so players can use any suitable miniatures in their collection. Stat out your favorite Chrome-and-Mirrorshades minis, set up terrain, pick a mission, and enjoy the carnage.

Front and back cover art is done and I have commissioned several pieces of original artwork for the interior. We’ll be running play test games soon, testing new Gear and a brand new type of Agent. (a Shiver) Pictures to follow soonish.

(note to self: contact various miniatures companies to get permission to use photos of their figs. )

Release is slated for end of Q2/early Q3.

Have an excellent day.

  1. The cover looks fantastic. Will keep an eye out for the release date.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

    1. Thanks man. I’m excited about the interior art too. I’ll let you know when its ready.

  2. Been doing a bit of online searching about using pictures of figs and terrain from my personal collection in a (however small) commercial product. From what I can determine, it seems even though I have purchased and painted them myself, and am not requesting or suggesting any official endorsement or affiliation, using them in that matter can be considered infringement. Hunh.

Having seen examples in other generic rules sets, (Song of Blades and Heroes, Future War Commander, Tomorrow’s War, and Dragon Rampant come to mind) I figured it wasn’t that much of an issue. So long as there was the courtesy of notifications attributions, and a clear statement regarding the game’s non-official/not affiliated status, I thought it was OK. Well, there I go, thinking again.

So it looks like I will either obtain permission from the manufacturers or refrain and go another route. OK.

I tried Hardwired also. The book is very well written, also a a foreign speaker, I understood the rules very easily. But my first games (one alone and two with my kids (aged 7! and 4!!!)) leaved me with al bunch of questions:
    1. Can I shoot in close combat?
    2. Can I retreat / flee from close combat?
    3. The hacking rules are a bit holey. Whats the difference of the four types? What does hijacking/ resist? Can I use a H-SEC-drone as my own with this option? Are there any cyberdefend roles?

Thank you for your great work with these easy and fast rules! I love them, but a Q&A is really needed!

    1. Hi Thomas,
      Thanks for contacting me.
Simple as it is, HW does presume a measure of gaming experience and knowledge. I should have been more precise in some of my explanations.
      1. Shoot INTO close combat or Shoot WHEN in Close Combat? If the first, then play that however you want. Shooter hits his target automatically. Shoots at a penalty for every model in melee over his target. Or shoots, perhaps hits, but then runs a chance of hitting a fellow squad mate or unintended target. Your call.
If shooting when in close combat, then sure. why not?
      2. We play it that if you withdraw from close combat, you are subject to a free attack. If hit, DD roll for evasion.
      3. Four types? Do you mean the Macros? Those are boosts to hacking and drone piloting.

      1. Thank you for your quick reply and clarification of close combat rules and sorry for my bad english.
Yes, the Cyber CAPS or Macros. Is there a difference between infiltrate and hijack a network? When I hijack a drone or cyborg, can I control him like my own drone with the same rules?

      2. IIRC Infiltrate is for a facility Network (alarm, security doors, turrets, etc) Hijack is for Drones, autonomous robots, etc.

      3. Oh, I’ve read the book three times, searching the information, but it could be that I overlooked the defense dice.

So with hijack I could control an enemy Cyborg, Drone, etc?

      4. Oh, and what is the defense dice of H-Sec Units? All D6 or D6, D8 and D10 (I played so)?

      5. Defense Dice of H-SEC = their quality die. so D6, D8, D10 respectively. I do think I remembered to say that.
