Bug Hunt Demo Set – Terrain and Mech

Wanted to give an update with pix of some finished terrain pieces and the replacement Armored Combat Suit for the Terran force. Click images for larger versions.

First the Terrain:
These are JR Miniatures Ruined Research Station pieces and Armorcast Tech Walls mounted on MDF, along with styrofoam debris and bits. Limits the configuration but easier to store and set up. Armorcast is the usual excellent product while the JR pieces are more lightweight, like rigid foam, and a bit sloppier detail-wise. It’s fine for ruins. Nothing a bit of paint and flock won’t cover.

Next is a foamcore, balsa, and styrofoam building corner. Simple enough.

Last is a small fueling station made with a vitamin bottle and pieces from the bits box.

Still searching.

I have several more pieces planned.

Second, after posting the Bug Hunting crew, sho3box kindly recommended Mantic’s new strider suit for Deadzone, as opposed to the Dreadball fig I modified. I’m glad he did. The difference is significant. Nice model, reasonable price, clean casting, easy assembly with different weapon and cockpit options. What’s not to like? Here are some shots:

That’s it for now. Back to NaNoWriMo and The Grim Fall.

Thanks and Take Care.

  1. That’s some very nice terrain 🙂

    1. Thanks. Glad you like it. Between this and a couple boxes filled unbuilt MDF kits, I’m going to run out of shelf space.

  2. Very nice detailing all around. I like that one can see the “netting” support structure in the concrete. I also like the idea with the vitamine bottle. Always good to recycle stuff. Making the pieces modular is also a neat idea, as you can make quite some configurations with a handful of moduls and don’t have to handle dozens of single pieces.

    1. Thanks. I’ve several more pieces to make: another ruined building and a pair of Bug holes. I’ve found scenic tiles far easier to deal with than armfuls of individual bits – particularly in a demo or class-room setting.
I’ll post pix when they’re complete.

  3. The set up looks fantastic. I cant imagine what school might have been like if we had people like you coming in with painted terrain sets and forces like this, its amazing.

Im glad that the Deadzone strider worked out. The Dreadball one is fine for what it is, but its size is determined by the boardgame that it is intended to be used in (where it is supposedly a robot, rather than a crewed vehicle, which makes a little more sense scale wise). The Deadzone Strider is a lot more imposing and it looks great here.

Your rate of turnover is impressive, good stuff.

    1. Thanks man.
Yes, I wish I’d had someone reinforce my love of the wargame hobby in my teen years. Would have saved me a decade of trouble.

Hats off to you for the Strider recommend. It’s head and shoulders above the other. Like you said, far more imposing and appropriate for a straight up bug hunt.

      Now to the Bugs.

  4. Really great stuff! Love your scenery.
